The total length of urban rail operating lines in Mainland China amounts to 6736.2 kilometers
China Urban Rail Transit Association (hereinafter referred to as "China Urban Rail Association") released the "Statistical and Analytical Report of Urban Rail Transit 2019" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") on May 9th. As of the end of 2019, there are 40 cities have opened 208 lines of urban rail transportation, with a total length of 6736.2 kilometers. In 2019, the national average operating revenue to expenditure ratio is 72.7%. Among them, cities with operating revenues exceeding 100% include Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, and Qingdao, all of which are cities with high resource operating income; the remaining cities have operating revenues and expenditures below 100%. On the whole, the operating cost of urban rail transit in China exceeding income is still a common situation, which requires government subsidies. In terms of operations, the scale of China's urban rail operations continues to grow. "Report" shows that as of the end of 2019, a total of 208 urban rail transit lines have been opened in 40 cities, with a total length of 6736.2 kilometers. 5 cities including Wenzhou, Jinan, Changzhou, Xuzhou, and Hohhot were added, 25 new lines were added, and the length of the new lines was 974.8 kilometers. From the perspective of the length of newly added lines, Chengdu added 105.9 kilometers, ranking first in the country. Cities with an increase of more than 50 kilometers were Beijing, Zhengzhou, Shenyang, and Wenzhou. In terms of growth rate, Xiamen and Fuzhou grew by more than 100%, with an increase of 137.3% and 117.1% respectively; Hefei, Urumqi, and Nanning followed, with growth rates exceeding 50%. In terms of operating network scale, a total of 18 cities have network scales of 100 kilometers or more. Among them, Shanghai is 809.9 kilometers and Beijing is 771.8 kilometers. The operation scale of the two cities is far ahead in the country, and a large-scale line network has gradually formed. In addition, the length of Guangzhou's operating lines exceeds 500 kilometers, the length of Chengdu's operating lines has grown rapidly and spans 400 kilometers, the length of operating lines in Nanjing, Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen exceeds 300 kilometers, and the length of operating lines in Tianjin and Suzhou exceeds 200 kilometers.
The China Urban Rail Association pointed out that the next step is to vigorously promote the construction of smart urban rail, further improve the industry governance system, do a good job in planning, and promote the development of urban fast rail and modern trams.
