ASTM A516 steel

ASTM A516 steel features

High strength: ASTM A516 steel has excellent strength characteristics, including tensile strength and yield strength, and can withstand the challenges of high pressures and temperature changes.

Good toughness: The steel has excellent impact toughness, which provides additional safety in case of accident.

Weldability: ASTM A516 steel is easy to weld, allowing manufacturers to form and join during production.

Wide range of applications: Due to its excellent properties, ASTM A516 steel is widely used in many industries and fields.

ASTM A516 Chemical Composition of Steel

The chemical composition of ASTM A516 steel varies according to the specific Grade (e.g. A516 Grade 70, A516 Grade 65, A516 Grade 60, etc.). But it usually includes carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), and possibly added alloying elements such as chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo). The proportions of these elements are carefully calibrated to meet the specific performance requirements of the steel plate. For example, the main elements of A516Gr70 steel plate include carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and a small amount of chromium and molybdenum, where the content of carbon is controlled within a moderate range to ensure the balance between the strength and toughness of the steel plate.

ASTM A516 steel applications

ASTM A516 steel is used in a wide range of applications, including:

Oil and gas industry: Used to manufacture containers in places such as refineries, gas processing plants to withstand internal or external pressure and temperature changes.

Chemical industry: Used in chemical plants to manufacture various chemical equipment and pipes.

Power industry: Used in the manufacture of pressure vessels and pipes in nuclear power plants and other power facilities.

Marine and other transport sectors: Also suitable for the manufacture of pressure vessels for the Marine engineering and transport industries.
