EN10025 S355 steel main features and applications
EN10025 S355 steel is a non-alloy mild steel that complies with the European standard EN10025 and is supplied in hot rolled condition. This steel has a high yield strength and was originally specified in the European EN10025 standard and later published by the British Standards Institute (BSI) as BS EN10025 S355, S355J2 and S355J2+N, among others.
The chemical composition of S355 steel mainly includes:
Carbon (C) : Maximum content 0.20%
Silicon (Si) : Maximum content 0.55%
Manganese (Mn) : maximum content 1.60%
Phosphorus (P) : Maximum content 0.025%
Sulfur (S) : Maximum content 0.030%
In addition, iron (Fe) is the main component of S355 steel.
S355 steel features
High strength: The average minimum yield strength of S355 steel is 355 N/mm², hence the name S355.
Good low temperature impact toughness: S355J2 and other brands can maintain their original mechanical properties in a low temperature environment of minus 40 degrees Celsius.
Good welding performance: S355 steel has good welding performance and is suitable for a variety of welding processes.
S355 steel has a wide range of applications, including:
Construction sector: Due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, S355 steel is widely used in the manufacture of Bridges, tall buildings and critical infrastructure.
Manufacturing: It can be used to manufacture a variety of heavy machinery, pressure vessels, chemical equipment and other equipment that needs to withstand high pressures and high temperatures.
Marine industry: In shipbuilding, S355 steel is also often used to manufacture hulls, decks and other structural parts to improve the structural strength and corrosion resistance of ships.
In general, EN10025 S355 steel with its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and low temperature impact toughness, in the construction, manufacturing and offshore industry has been widely used.
