Delivery status and characteristics of S55C steel plate

S55C is a Japanese steel grade, and all Japanese steels start with S.

S55C steel plate is a kind of special steel. S55C is colloquially called "medium carbon steel", which is iron with high carbon content, which can be directly heat treated after processing.

S55C is equivalent to China's high-quality carbon structural steel 55# steel. Like 45# steel, it belongs to high-quality medium carbon steel. The steel is fully static steel produced by electric furnace, open hearth or pure oxygen converter steelmaking method, and has the characteristics of excellent workability and uniform metallographic structure. S55C steel is cheap and easy to process, and is suitable for surface hardening such as high frequency quenching and flame quenching. S55C steel has carbon content (mass fraction, %) ≥ 0.4, excellent wear resistance, but reduced ductility, easy deformation and cracking during quenching, so quenching is extremely important, and must be quenched after tempering to avoid temper brittleness. S55C steel is difficult to cut and needs to be spheroidized to improve the cutting performance. In principle, it is tempered to a hardness of 19-22HRC to facilitate machining.
