Chemical and mechanical properties of SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB steel plates

SA299 is a carbon manganese silicon steel plate for pressure vessels. The steel produced according to SA299 standard has two GrAdes: SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB. The maximum thickness of SA299 steel plate is only limited by the ability of chemical composition to meet the specified mechanical property requirements.

Steel making process of SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB steel plates: the steel shall be killed steel and shall meet the requirements of fine GrAin size in A 20/A20M standard.

Chemical composition of SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB steel plates:
SA299 GrA ≤25mm : C: ≤0.26, Mn: 0.90-1.40, SI: 0.15-0.40, P: ≤0.035, S: ≤0.035.
SA299 GrA>25mm: C: ≤0.28, Mn: 0.90-1.50, SI: 0.13-0.45, P: ≤0.035, S: ≤0.035.
SA299 GrB≤25mm: C: ≤0.28, Mn: 0.90-1.40, SI: 0.15-0.40, P: ≤0.035, S: ≤0.035.
SA299 GrB>25mm: C: ≤0.30, Mn: 0.90-1.50, SI: 0.13-0.45, P: ≤0.035, S: ≤0.035.

Mechanical properties of SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB steel plates:
Tensile strength: SA299 GrA 75-95 (515-655), SA299 GrB 80-100 (550-690);
Yield strength:
Thickness≤25mm: SA299 GrA ≥ 42 (290), SA299 GrB ≥ 47 (325),
Thickness >25mm: SA299 GrA≥ 40 (275), SA299 GRB ≥ 45 (310).

Delivery status of SA299 GrA and SA299 GrB steel plates: normalized or hot rolled. Generally, more than 50mm steel plates shall be delivered in normalized status.
