BBN STEEL ASTM Corten A Weathering Resistant Steel

BBN STEEL ASTM Corten A Weathering Resistant Steel

Steel Grade: ASTM Corten A
Standard: ASTM
Specification:
Thickness: 6-420mm
Width: 100-4200mm
Length: 100-4200mm

Hot Forming: Normally it is carried out in a temperature range of 800 °C to 1050 °C. If it is required in different temperature, it is advisable to carry out a normalizing treatment at the end.
Flame Cutting: Normally it is carried out with the usual methods. In general, no preheat is required, but working on plates with a temperature of less than 10 °C shall be avoided.
Drawing: In spite of its excellent mechanical Properties, Corten A can be moderately drawn.
Welding: Corten A plate can be easily welded using common procedures used for mild steel plate (spot, TIG, MIG, MAG, electrode etc.). It is however advisable to avoid tempering in the heated zone and therefore to limit the ratio of linear energy to the thickness. Considering the chemical composition, it can be stated that Corten A steel is not subject to cold cracking. Welded structures fabricated with corten a steel does not normally need thermal stress relief treatment.
Refercence Standards: Corten A steel plate to be following standards: NFA35-502-E36W, ASTMA242 and A588, EN10155-Fe510A1K1/DD2K1, S.E.W087.

ASTM Corten A Application:
The mechanical characteristics and the resistance to atmospheric corrosion make this steel, the best product for the fabrication of agricultural vans and railway wagons, structures of bridges, water pipes, fans, chimneysand boilers.
The material forms its own protective layer when exposed to atmospheric elements. Essentially, the top layer corrodes and then protects the steel beneath it. The natural finish does not normally require any form of maintenance such as painting, which makes the material a highly cost effective alternative to other structural steels.
Mainly used for construction of tanks, containers, bridges, frame structures, vehicles, etc with the request of welded, bolted, etc.

ASTM Corten A Service:
These plates are in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, and are available as ex–stock or directly shipped from the mill. As with all our steels, our plates come with mill test certification, stampings and fully traceable. We can arrange for a variety of tests to be performed on the material if specified.
