Rust removal method of SS540 steel plate

What should we do when the SS540 steel plate is rusted? Don't worry, there are three treatments to choose from: pickling, shot blasting and polishing.

Pickling: The process of using acid solution to remove scale and rust on the surface for SS540 steel plate is called pickling. It is a method of cleaning the metal surface ,which is usually carried out together with pre-passivating treatment.

Generally, immersing the workpiece in aqueous solution of sulfuric acid to remove thin films such as oxides on the metal surface, which is the pre-treatment or intermediate treatment of electroplating, enamel, rolling and other processes.

Shot blasting: Shot blasting is a cold treatment process, which is divided into shot blasting cleaning and shot blasting strengthening. As the name implies, shot blasting cleaning is to remove impurities such as surface oxide skin to improve the appearance quality of SS540 steel plate. Shot blasting strengthening is to use high-speed moving projectile flow to continuously impact and strengthen the surface of the workpiece for SS540 steel plate, forces the surface and surface layer of SS540 steel plate to undergo changes such as microstructure modification during the cyclic deformation process, this can improve the fatigue fracture resistance of the material/part for SS540 steel plate, prevent fatigue failure, plastic deformation and brittle fracture, and increase the fatigue life.

Polishing: A processing method that reduces the surface roughness of the workpiece by mechanical, chemical or electrochemical action to obtain a bright and smooth surface of SS540 steel plate. Polishing does not improve the dimensional accuracy or geometric shape accuracy of the workpiece, but for the purpose of obtaining a smooth surface or mirror gloss, and sometimes to eliminate gloss (matting). Usually a polishing wheel is used as a polishing tool, the polishing wheel is generally made of multiple layers of canvas, felt or leather, and the two sides are clamped with metal discs.
